Steamship built 1899 by Blohm & Voss, Hamburg, Germany. Originally named Rhein for the Norddeutscher Lloyd (North German Lloyd) line. 10,058 tons, length 158.5 meters x beam 17.7 meters, 1 funnel, 4 masts, twin screw propulsion, quadruple expansion engines. Service speed of 13 knots. Accommodations: 139 passengers in 1st class, 125 in 2nd class, and 2,500 in 3rd class (steerage). Crew of 174. Launched: September 30, 1899. Maiden voyage: December 9, 1899: Bremen - New York. Last voyage: circa 1922. Passenger accommodations altered to 302 in 2nd class and 2,774 in steerage. Seized by U.S. Government at Baltimore, MD in April 1817, and renamed Susquehanna. Used as U.S. Navy transport. Sold in 1925 to Fincke, Bangert & Co., Philadelphia. Sold in 1928 to Japan for scrapping. Scrapped in 1929.
