Steamship built 1882, by John Elder & Co, Glasgow for the Norddeutscher Lloyd (North German Lloyd) line. 4,816 gross tons, length 429.8 ft. x beam 45.9 ft., 2 funnels, 4 masts, iron construction, single screw propulsion. Service speed of 16 knots. Accommodations: 120 passengers in 1st class, 130 in 2nd class, and 1,000 in 3rd class (steerage). Launched November 15, 1882. Maiden voyage March 14, 1883: Bremen - Southampton - New York. On March 14, 1886 she rescued all the passengers and crew of the Cunard vessel Oregon which was sunk in collision near Long Island. On Februrary 2, 1899 she entailed serious damage while in drydock at Birkenhead after provisional sale to the Canadian Steamship Co. The deal was abandoned and she was scrapped.
