Anniversary Announcement from the "New London Journal", New London,
Henry Co., IA, April 1937:
"Next Wednesday, April 21, 1937 will be a great occasion for Mr. and
Mrs. J. H. Riepe. On that date they will observe their 50th wedding
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Riepe were married in Des Moines county, four miles
southwest of Kingston. That was way back in 1887. The Reverend
Knehans performed the ceremony.
In 1898 they decided to come to Henry county. The people on the
bluffs near Kingston always referred to this as the prairie. They
farmed north of New London until 1917 when they retired from the farm
and moved to New London.
They were the parents of two sons, one son was killed by lightening
several years ago, the other, Fred and family live north of New
London. They have two grandchildren, Robert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Riepe and Alden Riepe at Ft. Madison.
Mr. Riepe said he will probably be putting in garden and Mrs. Riepe
doing the general routine of house work on their golden anniversary.
But the Sunday following they will celebrate the occasion at the home
of their son, Fred.
The Journal joins in extending congratulations." | Family: F273

From Mike Lord, gr-gr-grandson of Frederick Riepe:
". . . (and now, the biggest surprise) The marriage of Henry D.
Riepe, age 62, to Elizabeth Manz, age 66, on October 7, 1889. This
was the second marriage for both of them. Henry lived in South
Rutherford, NJ, and listed his job as Proprietor of a Hotel. His
parents (!!!) were Fred William and Elizabeth Hafner, both of whom had
passed away by 1889, and both were born in Germany. Elizabeth was
born in Germany, and lived in 1889 at 104 Walnut Street in Newark, NJ.
She was married to a person with the last name of Lochner before
marrying Henry. Her parents were John Manz (dead) and Catherine Gllis
(I know the last name is wrong, but that's what it looks like.) Henry
and Elizabeth were married in South Rutherford, NJ, by Carl
"Gerhauser," Pastor of the German Reformed Church on Blum Street in
Newark, NJ. The witnesses were Stewart Winslow of Union Township and
Pauline Gerharmer of 35 Blum Street, Newark." | Family: F950
